冯友兰以人文关怀的精神,共相说的形而上理论和唯物史观比较中西文化的发展。他以价值标准来解释中西文化差异,到以文化类型说明中西文化的同一,再用文化类型的转变来说明中国文化的发展,终于比较完整地完成了自己比较中西文化的理论,从一个较高理论层面提出了自己理解的中国文化发展的趋向和道路。

FENG You-lan compares the development of Chinese and Western culture with humanistic care, metaphysical theory of common phase and historical materialism. He explains the cultural differences between China and western countries with value criteria, identical culture with cultural types, and the development of Chinese culture with the transition of cultural types. He concludes with his own understanding of the way of Chinese cultural development on a high theoretical level and forms his own relatively complete theory on comparison of Chinese and Western culture.
