晚清有线电报事业是在抵抗西方列强的窥视和侵略中,为满足军事、经济等方面的迫切需求而创建并发展起来的.对晚清有线电报事业的创建和发展过程进行分析与研究,认为虽然它的发展相对西方国家比较滞后,但对于中国来说,开创了通讯事业的新纪元,奠定了中国电讯事业的基础,并且在军事、经济、教育等方面发挥了巨大作用,推动了晚清社会的发展.

Wire telegraph system emerged in the process of resisting against the invasion of western powers,and was established to meet the urgent military and economic needs in late Qing Dynasty. The process of establishment and development of wire telegraph system is studied and it is believed that its comparatively sluggish growth even though, its establishment has initiated a new epoch and laid the foundation for Chinese communication industry,and played an important role in military,economy,educa- tion,given impetus to the social development of late Qing Dynasty as well.
