The successful commercialization of solid-bed detergent alkylation signals a new generation of linear alkylbenzene (LAB) process technologies.The new process,called the Detal process,eliminates the need to use as the catalyst liquid hydrofluoric (HF) acid,a potentially hazardous chemical.Besides advantages in operational safety and eliminating environmental concerns,the Detal process is cost-effective when compared with the HF acid technology and yields a superior product.These benefits are afforded future and existing LAB producers alike.
