电炉炼钢近年发展很快，尤其ＤＣ电炉炼钢成为一种新潮流，ＡＣ和ＤＣ炉型派生多种多样，因此要结合具体条件选择优良的电炉炉型。选用电炉设备要立足国内，若从国外引进要对比选择。二手电炉和翻新电炉技术水平低，一次投资省但生产成本高，得不偿失，不宜选用。
