The appearance of merchants in Sichuan in Song Dynasty was closely related with the geographic environment. Their activities, different groups, capital flow and influence showed that that they speeded up the economic development of Sichuan and other areas, strengthened the economic relation with other provinces, improved people＇s life and consolidated the frontier defense. They opened a new scene in monetary history. Therefore, their functions cannot be neglected.
