Translating History from Tangut Buddhist Texts

本文开头提出了理解西夏文佛典史料的十条预置规则，希望能得到学界对这些初步规则的修正或者反驳。随后，根据从黑水城所出西夏佛典中收集的资料，本文提供了12世纪下半叶和13世纪初活跃在西夏佛教界的八个僧人的小传。最後，文章重新考虑了西夏帝师的问题，并且根据新近介绍的汉译藏传佛典《大乘要道密集》再次探讨了有关大乘玄密帝师的情况。

The present paper opens with ten preliminary procedural guidelines for assessing data found in Tangut Buddhist texts,in the hope of inviting scholarly response to refine(or reject)the proposed rules.It then presents biographical sketches of eight monks active in the Xia Buddhist world in the latter half of the 12th century and first part of the 13th century,based on information gleaned mainly from the Tangut Buddhist texts in the Khara-khoto collection.Finally the paper reconsiders the problem of identifying Xia imperial preceptors,reviews the information pertaining to Dacheng Xuanmi Imperial Preceptor in the light of the newly introduced collection of translations into Chinese from Tibetan texts,Dacheng Yaodao Miji.
