The philosophy of Confucianism has always attached great importance to the exploration of the principle and flexibility issue. As the master of Pre - Qin Taoism, Chuang - tzu also makes a specific and in - depth study on this issue. On the one hand, he approves of the concepts of flexibility, stressing the importance of following the trend of the times, underlining we should start from the concrete terms and keep flexible. On the other hand, he also emphasizes that we should stick to the universal principle (Tao), claiming that "abiding to Tao" is on which "flexibility" based, and to which the latter points. Therefore, on the surface, Chuang - tzu and Confucians have something in common in understanding the relationship between principle and flexibility, but, intrinsically they vary from each other in many aspects.
