试论晚清短篇小说译本的现代性——以周氏兄弟《域外小说集》为个案

On the Modernity of the Translation of Short Stories in Late Qing Dynasty——A Case Study of Collection of Foreign Short Stories by ZHOU Brothers

在晚清中国小说追求文学现代性的过程中,外国小说译本有着非常重要的历史地位。1909年周氏兄弟(鲁迅与周作人)合作翻译的外国短篇小说译文集《域外小说集》,通过其中收录的16篇外国短篇小说译文以四种不同类型的小说结构模式一举突破了中国古代传统小说固有的以情节为中心的小说结构特点。虽然由于种种原因,这部小说集在当时没有产生影响,但却把中国文学现代性的历史向上推溯了十年。

In the pursuit of literary modernity in short stories in late Qing Dynasty, the translation of foreign works plays an important historical role. In 1909, ZHOU brothers （ LU Xun and ZHOU Zuo-ren） together translate Collection of Foreign Short Stories which includes 16 translations and four types of short story structural pattern. This leads to a breakthrough of traditional Chinese short stories which are centered on plot. Due to various reasons, this collection does not cast great influence, but the modernity of Chinese literature therefore dates back to ten years earlier.
