With Annals of Japan Association for Middle East Studies as a case, the paper summarizes the characteristics of Middle East studies in Japan. Japanese scholars have done in-depth research on the Middle East from various disciplines, and their fruits of research have been recognized internationally. However, it＇s style of keeping a distance from reality is arguable.
