严复与李鸿章关系释论——以“怀才不遇说”为中心的讨论

严复任职北洋水师学堂期间与李鸿章的关系曾引起人们的关注,一般以"怀才不遇"说明严复的悲剧,但此说不能真实反映出大器晚成的思想家严复的成长境遇。严复本人的"北洋当差,味同嚼蜡"的夫子自道,也未必是针对李鸿章的不满情绪。严、李关系具有阶段性和层次性的特点,他们不仅是下属与上司的关系,而且是思想家与政治家的关系。

The relations between Yan Fu and Li Hongzhang During his career at Beiyang Marine College caused a widespread discussion. Although the popular view of ＂ unrecognized talent＂ could explain his tragedy, it couldn＇ t really reflect his growth situation as a thinker with great talent matures slowly. Although Yan Fu expressed his own views that his career at Beiyang was like chewing wax, the opinion might have nothing to do with Li Hongzhang. In fact, the relations between Yan Fu and Li Hongzhang had characteristics of gradualness and level. Not only they were the relations between subordinate and boss, but also thinker and statesman.
