A Review of Writing Characteristics of Brank Bergon's New Western Fiction

弗兰克·伯根(1943-)被认为是新西部的代言人之一,其小说直接反映了影响当代西部的重大问题。他的三部新西部小说——《肖肖恩.迈克》(1987)、《对圣.埃德和S哥的诱惑》(1992)和《荒诞的把戏》(1995)应该被看成一个整体,因为这三部小说互为补充,目的是震撼现存的僵化观念,表现其替代物,以便引起强烈的社会反响。这些新西部小说的创作特色主要体现在复杂、分化、多样三个方面。

Frank Bergon（ 1943 - ） is considered one of the voices of the New West,for his fictions reflect directly the important issues that affect the contemporary West. His three new western fietions-Shoshone Mike（1987） ,The Temptations of St. Ed and Brother S（ 1992 ） and Wild Game（ 1995 ）should he considered as a unity, since they complement each other in the attempt to shake the present consolidated and petrified perceptions and display their alternatives to awake striking reactions in the society. The writing characteristics of his three fictions mainly embody three aspects as complexity, polarization and diversity.
