试论隐喻在英语写作中的价值性与创造性

Discussion on value and creativity of metaphor in English writing

对隐喻的研究可谓源远流长。早在两千多年以前西方的亚里士多德就对隐喻做过系统的研究。作为一种修辞格,隐喻被看作一种特殊的说话或写作方式,最常使用于诗歌之中。同时,隐喻作为人类组织概念系统的重要基础,常见于认知语言学中,它在人们的语言表达中发挥着重要的作用。文章结合教学实践,辅之具体实例,试阐明隐喻作为一种思维方式是如何应用于英语写作中并体现出其价值性与创造性的。

As early as two thousand years ago, Aristotle, the western scholar, has done a systematic study on metaphor. As a most generally accepted device of rhetoricM purposes, metaphor is considered as a way of speaking or writing in which a word or phrase is used to describe something quite different from what is usually expressed, esp. in poetry. In cognitive linguistics, metaphor plays a significant role in linguistic expressions as an important foundation for the organization of our conceptual system. This paper tries to illustrate the uses of metaphorical language as thinking mode in English writing by a brief introduction and some personal experiences in English teaching.
