真正的知识分子的本质是公共性，他们是生存于公共空间，敢于对公众事务直陈利弊，关心广大文化受众爱憎的人。大学以其诱人的职位、丰厚的薪酬和高尚的社会地位，吸附了越来越多优秀而独立的公共知识分子。公共空间中的知识分子进入大学后，不得不放弃其元话语，服膺于大学的规则。当大学越来越重要的时候，真正的知识分子越来越少。

The essence of intellectuals is public. And they live in a public space, dare to express the pros and cons of public affairs, care more about the people who love and hate culture. Universities attract more and more excellent and independent public intellectuals due to attractive posts, high salaries and high social status. However, many intellectuals in the public space who enter the university have to give up its meta-discourse and subscribe to the university rules. When the University is more and more important, fewer and fewer real intellectuals exist.
