Heart of Darkness depicts Marlow＇s mental trip along with his travel to and back from Africa. When applied with the theories of Orientalism and the theories of power and discourse from the perspective of post-colonialism, this novel sheds some light on the post-colonialism. Through Marlow＇s eye and ear, Joseph Conrad reveals an African colony, one aspect of the Oriental world, which was created and distorted by the Western colonialists, and discloses the predicament of the black women who were deprived of their right to speak. Further, through Marlow＇s experiences and his thinking, Conrad destroys the fallacies imposed on the Oriental world by the Western world and meanwhile represents the black women＇s desire for speaking out..
