The Internal Causes of Shen Cong-wen’s Giving up His Writing Career

1949年后,"文学家"沈从文逐渐淡出人们的视野,放弃了文学创作而转行进入历史文物研究领域,沉潜到历史深处。其弃文转行的内因首先是他对自己坚守了十余年的民间写作立场进行了质疑与反思,使《长河》以后的文学创作陷入困境。其次是随着1949年中国社会的巨大变动,沈从文的文学理想变得不合时宜而遭遇挫折,最终使他不得不弃文转行。

Shen Cong - wen, Chinese famous man of litterateur, has gradually retreated from the field of writing since 1949 and switched to historical and antiquarian research, in which he has been steeped form the rest of his life. The internal causes of Shen Cong - wen＇ s giving up his writ- ing career can traced back, he began to doubt and reconsider his own writing standpoint for ordinary people, which he had adhere to for more than ten years. On the other hand, Shen＇ s literary ideals, which are both sur - political and sur - commercial, appear quite incompatible with the dramatic social changes after 1949 in China. Therefore, after suffering repeated setbacks, Shen has to give up his writing career and switch to another profession
