Walt Whitman（1819 - 1892）, who is regarded as one of the greatest American poets, is also a reputed great and genuine democracy fighter. He thought himself out to be the poet of American democraey, and this is reflected truly from his poems with praises on the human, nature, equality, democracy and freedom as the themes. This paper tries to look at these themes represented in his Poetry （Leaves of Grass in particular）, which support his views on self - confidence and advocate the freedom, the equality and the democracy.
