The Chronicle Biography of Song Luo

宋荦(1634-1713)字牧仲,号漫堂,又号西陂,别自署绵津山人、沧浪寓公、西陂放鸭翁、西陂居士等。河南商丘人。年十四,应诏以大臣子入侍卫。康熙三年,授黄州通判,历官江西、江宁巡抚,以吏部尚书致仕。康熙五十二年卒,年八十。荦能诗文,工书画,精鉴赏,尤以诗享盛誉于清初文坛,一时文士多与之交游。故对其生平、创作事迹的梳理,有助于其他相关研究的展开。

Song Luo（ 1634 - 1713 ） , was also called Muzhong, Mantang and Xibi. His other alternative names were Person of Mianjin Mountain, Canglang Pavilion, Master of duck -raising and xihijushi. He was born in Shangqiu, Henan province in 1634. When he was 14 years old, he served as. He was granted as Tongpan（ a kind of official title） in Huangzhou in the third year of the KangXi Emperor and governor Jiangxi and Jiangning and then as the minister of personnel department until he resigned from his official post. He died at the age of 80 in the fifty - second year of the KangXi Emperor（1713） . He was adept at poem, handwriting and drawing and was well - known for his poems in the literary world in the early Qing Dynasty. Many scholars and poets traveled and made friends with him at that time.
