September 10th witnessed the 10th anniversary ceremony of China's largest online trade company Alibaba Group at the Dragon Sports Centre in Hangzhou.On the ceremony,Alibaba's founder and President Jack Ma announced the grant blueprint for the coming decade.'We will create an e-commerce platform for thousands of small and medium-sized enterprises,which means a hundred millions job opportunities and a marketplace for billions of people around the world.'No matter in terms of performance or brand value,Taobao.com (Taobao),China's largest Internet retail website under Alibaba,is highly appraised and even regarded as the synonym of e-commerce in China. But one insider points out Taobao concentrates on'electronic'with almost all its resources but having neglected'business',the essence of e-commerce. Though enjoying a prosperous outlook, Taobao has to face some growing rivals and large Taobao vendors with bitter-sweet feelings towards Taobao.com. Taobao has recently launched a'Big Taobao'strategy,i.e.it will transfer to an e-commerce infrastructure service provider that will combine multi-modules like business-to-business,consumer-to-consumer,branded products and cloud computing together. Within this structure,back-office delivery functions such as logistics,warehousing,category management are yet to be touched But in the eyes of the world e-commerce leader Amazon,these are the core competitiveness that powers efficient operation and services as well as maintaining sustainable growth in the future. It remains to be seen whether Taobao will be able to solve these problems.
