Conceptual Metaphors of "Eating" Event Verbs in English

针对有关英语"吃"事件动词概念隐喻的专门研究缺乏的现状,以语料库语料为基础,运用概念隐喻理论从施事和受事的特点着手分析"吃"事件动词的概念隐喻,结果表明"吃"域提供了施事的"内化"意象和受事的"破坏"意象,并分别被映射到不同的目标域形成概念隐喻。该结果提供了理解"吃"事件动词的隐喻理据的一个新视角。

In view of the lack of specific research on conceptual metaphors of English ＂eating＂ event verbs,the present study explores the conceptual metaphors of ＂eating＂ event verbs by analyzing features of the agent and patient of the ＂eating＂ actions based on corpus materials and the Theory of Conceptual Metaphors. The result shows that the source domain of ＂eating＂ provides the ＂internalization＂ image of the agent and the ＂destruction＂ image of the patient. Both images are mapped onto various target domains to construct conceptual metaphors. The result presents a new perspective for understanding the metaphorical motivations of ＂eating＂ event verbs.
