The Evolution of China's Foreign Trade System in the Middle Period of Ming Dynasty

明正德年间任广东布政使的吴廷举因其制定的番舶交易之法,且在正德十二年代佛郎机人求贡,而被时人及后人认为启佛郎机人之衅。该文仔细检阅各种相关史料,从分析明代的朝贡贸易向商舶贸易的转变入手,认为吴廷举代佛郎机人求贡虽确有其事,但其制定的番舶交易之法是顺应历史潮流的举动,与佛郎机人之衅无必然的因果联系,应予以正面评价。

Wu Tingju, an Officer in Guangdong in Zhengde period of Ming Dynasty, was condemned for his constituting the Transactions Act of Foreign Ships and triggering Frank＇s provocations. On the contrast, after careful study of all related materials, the present paper analyses the changes of trade types, and affirms that the Transactions Act of Foreign Ships is positive and conforms to the historical trends.
