从专业发展和学科建设需要出发，从低年级教学要求考虑，认为现代地图学教材编写的指导思想是既要强调基础性又要强调创新性和时代感，基本思路是应以“地球与地理空间信息”和“地图数据”为主线，把数字环境下如何制作与使用数字与电子地图的基本理论与技术方法讲深讲透。同时文章还给出了现代地图学教材的各章内容框架体系和结构安排。

Considering the major development and the needs of subject construction, as well as the requirements of low-grade class, it is held that the guiding principle of new maps textbooks not only stresses foundation also innovation and modernity. The basic idea stresses ＂earth and geospatial information＂ and ＂map digitals＂ as the main line, and it explains the basic methods of producing and making use of digital and electronic maps deeply and clearly under digital environment. Meanwhile, each chapter＇s framework and system arrangements of modem maps Textbooks are given.
