Akiko Yosano, the most legendary woman writer in the modern Japanese literary, was also highly controversial. In her youth and middle age, advancing in the forefront of the times, she pursued the artistic progress and the liberation of humanity and became a famous modern female romantic poet and a social critic who advocated the female liberation. However, such a writer who had once kept abreast with the times, in her later years, changed her ideology and became an extreme nationalist, so she was criti- cized and blamed in the postwar. The time Yosano Akiko lived in was basically in synchro with Japan' s modern aggressive war af- ter the Meiji Restoration. This dissertation compiles her understanding of the war' s ideological trajectory and the causes that she changed her ideology in her later years. The refraction fromYosano Akiko' s transformation in her later years is not only a writer' s tragedy, but also an inevitable destination of an imperialist Japanese aggressor.
