A Study of the Borrowing of English Metaphors in Chinese from Cultural and Cognitive Perspective

隐喻是用某一领域的经验来说明或理解另一领域的经验的一种认知活动,它根植于人的身体体验和文化体验。语言是文化的载体。作为语言的一部分,隐喻具有文化性,承载着浓厚的文化信息;同时,它的形成受一定文化背景制约。汉语直接借用了大量的英语隐喻。这是因为在全球化背景下,中西文化不断交融,这使得汉语本族语者和英语本族语者具有共同的文化体验和共有的概念系统。

Metaphor is a cognitive activity of explaining and understanding one domain of experience in terms of another and it is prounded in bodily experience and cultural experience.Language is a cultural carrier.As a part of culture,metaphor has the cultural nature and carries a large amount of cultural information and is affected by a specific cultural context.Chinese has directly borrowed a lot of English metaphors.The reason is that in the context of globalization there has been a pradual amalgamation between Chinese culture and Western culture which causes native Chinese speakers and native English speakers to have common cultura; experience and concept systems.
