Popular literature has become an important subject of study around the world in the latter half of the 20th century. This thesis summarizes the course of studies on the American popular classic Gone With The Wind in the 20th century. The first part of the paper outlines the process of how Gone With The Wind became an important subject of the academic study. The second part discusses the achievements and limitations of these studies in the context of cultural studies.
