Alumina supported copper ultrafine particle catalysts were prepared by modified sol gel methods. The crystalline phase, crystallography and dispersivity of the active components were studied by XRD, TEM, BET and copper surface area measurement. The catalytic performance was evaluated by amination of dodecanol. The results showed that the supported copper ultrafine catalysts prepared in this work had much higher specific surface area and active surface area, the active components were much more highly dispersed on the support surface, as compared with the ultrafine catalysts prepared by impregnation. The catalysts had high activity and excellent selectivity in the amination reaction.
