Through asymmetric hydrosilylation of poly(isopropenyl methyl ketone) and poly(mesityl oxide), poly(3 methyl 3 buten 2 ol) and poly(4,4 dimethyl 3 buten 2 ol) with chiral alcohol groups were synthesized catalyzed by in situ catalysts prepared with chiral ligand, 2 (2 pyridyl) 4 carbomethoxy 1,3 thiazolidine, and [Rh(COD)Cl] 2. The asymmetric hydrosilylation of copolymers of isopropenyl methyl ketone or mesityl oxide with styrene (molar ratio 1∶1) was also investigated. The reactivity of these two homopolymers was lower than that of poly(methyl vinyl ketone) as the result of steric effect of methyl group.The effect of solvent on the optical rotations of the products was studied. It was found that the optical rotation was mainly caused by the chiral side alcohol group.
