The masterpiece of Mrs. Stow is the greatest anti-slavery work of America in the 19th century, which made the people in the south stand up to fight against the slavery sustained in the South of America. This work also gave a true account of the miserable fate of the slaves in the south and woke up the sympathy of the white people to the black slaves. Uncle Tom who was full of kind- ness was the true hero in the history of American novels. This article analyzes the characteristics of loyalty, kindness and generosity embodied in Uncle Tom who was a real believer in christanity, it also point out that Tom was very tolerant and weak to the cruelty of slavery and that the black must fight back to gain freedom.
