A Talk on the Research Methods in the Study of Classical Chinese Literature

2009年4月26日上午,南京大学文学院莫砺锋教授应邀来山东师范大学文学院,为古典文学专业硕士、博士研究生作古典文学研究方法的学术报告。作为我国建立博士学位制度后第一位博士生,莫先生深情地回忆了25年前从国学大师程千帆先生问学和后来随同一起工作的经历,追溯了南京大学古典文学学科自上世纪80年代以来由程千帆等先生带领逐步复兴壮大成为第一批国家重点学科的历程。报告着重就研究生治学方法作了三个方面的论述:首先是要在古典文献学上打好基础,其次研究选题要注重学术的价值和大小难易适度,最后写论文要选取与所研究问题性质密相契合的方法。报告高屋建瓴,深入浅出,循循善诱,如话家常,尤多现身说法,亲切感人。听者满堂,或坐或立,如沐春风。

Professor Mo Lifeng from School of Literature, Nanking University, was invited to School of Liberal Arts, Shandong Normal University, to give a nearly - two - hour talk to the master and Eloctor candidates, discussing the research methods in the study of classical Chinese literature on April 26, 2009. As the first Ph. D. since China ushered in the doctorate degree among other academic degrees, Mr. Mo recalled with deep affection his experience of studying under, and working with, Mr. Cheng Qianfan, one of the masters of classical Chinese literature, and traced its revival history in Nanking University since the 80s of last century under his leadership, and the process of how it fmally became the first batch of national key disciplines. The lecture focuses on the three following aspects： firstly, one should lay a solid foundation on classical bibliography and literature; secondly, the selection of topics should be of academic value and of proper difficulty; thirdly, an appropriate approach should be chosen in view of the nature of the topic in question.
