Possibilities for Confucian Humanistic Spirit to Surmount Modern Man's Alienation Predicament

发达工业文明社会,人类已陷入与自然、社会以及自身关系的异化之中。这既是人类生存所面临的困境,又是西方主导的技术主义、竞争性物质主义和个人主义价值理念危机的标志。儒家人文精神中"天人合一"的思维模式,"仁者爱人"的处世理念以及"义利统一"的物质追求,因其重视人与自然、人与社会、以及人与自身关系的和谐,从而为弥补西方文化不足,消解人类异化困境提供了一种东方式的文化生活典范。

In developed industrial civilization, human beings have already been caught in the alienation of relationship with nature, society and themselves. This is not only the predicament for human existence to meet, but also indicates the crisis of technologism, competitive materialism and individualism and other ideas of values dominating the Western world. Heaven and Man in One, a Confucian humanistic pattern of thinking, its principle of ＂the benevolent loving the others＂ in handling worldly affairs, and material pursuits adhering to principle of ＂unity of righteousness and interests＂ have all attached importance to the harmoniousness between man and nature, man and society, man and himself. Consequently it can remedy the demerits of Western culture and surmount modem man＇s alienation predicament by providing a kind of Oriental cultural life as a classic example.
