Gome Electrical Appliances Holdings Limited,one of China's largest home appliance retailers,canceled the slotting fee it previously charged suppliers to stock their goods in a store in Jinan,capital of Shandong province,in the latter half of August,2009.In addition,promoters from the suppliers are replaced with those hired by Gome itself.Gome reveals that the model will be popularized among other Gome outlets throughout the country if it goes on well.Gome's rival Suning Appliance declines to comment on the move,whereas suppliers applaud the new measures.The slotting fees emerge as the commodity economy prospers.Gradually,the suppliers' prof it falls as the sales expense grows.As a result,friction between retailers and suppliers increases.The issue of slotting fees reflects the conflicting interests of different parties and has aroused lots of attention.Some national and local departments concerned have planned or are planning to establish standards for slotting fees of the supermarkets.Gome's trial pushes the reform onto the agenda.It is considered useful in improving relationships between suppliers and retailers and establishing a sound industry order.
