TOUGH2 is a powerful general numerical simulator for non-isothermal flows of multiphase, multicomponent fluids in permeable （porous or fractured） media. TOUGH2 family codes have been extensively applied to geothermal reservoir engineering, nuclear waste disposal, environmental remediation problems, and vadose zone hydrology. This paper provides a brief introduction to the code and summary of its development history. Issues of the code architecture, features, and applications are addressed.
