Rethinking Translation in the Context of Globalization——Also a Comment on Cronin's Translation and Globalization

全球化要求翻译学对许多根本问题进行重新思考。在翻译功能方面,跨文化交流需要充分发挥翻译的作用,不能一味强调完全掌握对方语言。在译者身份方面,译者应扩大眼界,增强文化自觉意识。在翻译研究方法方面,直接指导翻译实践的理论固然重要,但更重要的是揭示文化交流中的权力关系,从而促进弱势文化和强势文化的平等交流。

Globalization requires translatology should reconsider many basic problems about translation. On the function of translation, cross-culture communication should make full use of translation, and cannot exclusively rely on grasping the other languages. As for the position of translators, they must enlarge their scope of view and beware of their cultural responsibility. Last, although it is necessary to develop theories which can directly guide translation practice, it is not less important to discover the power rela-tionship between the involved cultures, so as to ensure the equality of minor cultures to the major ones.
