Historical Literature Miscellany on Two Fetish Persons Tao Dan and Tao Xuan

陶淡及其侄陶烜二真人为湖南长沙县榔梨镇民间传统所祀之俗神,自清代以降,在当地之民间俗信宗教占有相当重要的地位。但是,由于地方文献记载极为简略,关于其生平事迹,人们所知不多,并有着许多舛误。通过对晋代以降历史文献的考索,尤其是检索到一份清代敕封陶公二真人的内阁文档,基本上厘清了二位真人从隐逸者而仙真而民间祭祀俗神的历史轨迹,有助于了解处于社会与自然界双重困扰下之俗世民众的一种内心呼唤与诉求。

Tao Dan and Tao Xuan were fetish persons of the Taoism who had attained enlightenment through practicing Taoism. They two were folk legends as ＂the local gods in Langli Town of Changsha County. Since the period ofthe Qing Dynasty （1644-1911 ） the two Taos took the important position in the local religious faith. However, due to the simple records of literature about the two fetish persons, as for their all lives were recorded simple and some errors existed, by means of reading the historical document since the Dynasty of Jin （A.D. 265-419） and one copy of their life historic records of the Qing Dynasty（1644-1911） how the two Taos became the fetish men. Thus it could help us to get known the two lived in seclusion. One could know a kind of shouting from inner hearts of the local folks under the hardships existence.
