Objective To establish a chronic heart failure (CHF) model of dogs by observing the effect of percutaneous coronary microembolism on dog heart function. Methods Thirty-two dogs were included in this study. Baseline assessment of their heart function was performed in a conscious state. Microsphere was injected into the coronary via a coronary catheter. CHF[20%- 25% reduction in EF, dP/dtmax and Left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP)〉14mmHg]was induced by weekly coronary microembolization. Results CHF was successfully induced in 19 dogs. Conclusion CHF can be induced by weekly coronary microembolization via a coronary catheter, which is similar to the human CHF in manifestations and pathogenesis.
