This paper, based on the interpersonal function of functional grammar, analyzes the inaugural address of Obama from four aspects：mood, modality, person system and evaluation, in order to explain the relationship between the choice of words and the achievement of interpersonal meaning,so that we can understand better about the deep meaning of the words in an inaugural address.
