The relationship between the Si/Al ratio of ZSM 5 zeolite and its activity and stability for aromatization has been studied. It is shown that when Si/Al ratio decreases, their catalytic activity increases, but stability decreases. In situ IR spectra was utilized to investigate the effect of hydrothermal treatment and Zn modification on the surface acidic properties of ZSM 5 zeolite, and the relations of their acidic properties with catalytic activity and stability. Experimental results indicate that hydrothermal treatment and Zn modification could enhance the catalytic activity as well as stability significantly.
