Investigations on treatment of cool rolling emulsion with inorganic ceramic membranes have been conducted. For this system, we found that zirconia membranes have advantages over alumina membranes, that is, the flux through the former was higher than that of the latter. The effects of cross flow velocity, transpressure, temperature have been studied and the operating conditions were optimized. Chemical cleanings have been used to membranes and the methods for membrane regeneration were established. It was shown that the Zirconia ceramic membrane filtration is feasible to the treatment of cool rolling emulsion.
