On the Relationship of HONG Xiu-quan and YANG Xiu-qing

洪秀全与杨秀清是太平天国农民运动的两位杰出领袖,大部分的太平天国官方文书都记载着洪秀全与杨秀清在金田起义时期以兄弟关系为主线,同心协力,共秉朝政;在定都天京后以君臣关系为主线,后来矛盾萌发,最终激化,终于演出了骨肉相残的悲剧。

Hong Xiuquan and Yang Xiuqing are the two outstanding leaders of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Peasants Movement. Most official documents about Taiping Heavenly Kingdom record that the relationship between Hong and Yang were based on brotherhood. They worked together to regime the Kingdom during the time of Jintian Uprising. After settling in Tianjin, their brotherhood relationship was transferred to that of monarch and subject and the contradiction between them evolved. They fought with each other and finally ended up with a bloody tragedy.
