《留东外史》是中国留学生文学的开山之作,因为书中充斥着对留日学生嫖妓的描写,自诞生以来备受误读和诟病。其实作者描写中国留学生嫖妓,是为了炮制一个日本"卖淫国神话",隐藏着把日本"妓女化"的价值取向,有着明显的"性政治"意味。作者的国家意识和民族感情,和当时特定的历史语境密切相关。

The biography of studying in Japan has been misunderstood and castigated since the work being written out, in which the fact that many students visit prostitute is described. The writer tried to work out the ＂myth of prostitution realm＂ and contained a tendency to prostitute Japan＇s honor in order to express the writer＇s national awareness and ethnic emotion under special historic conditions.
