The Polyphonic Features of Light in August

《八月之光》是美国著名现代主义小说家威廉.福克纳的代表作之一。文章运用巴赫金的复调小说理论从三个方面,即主人公、文本结构和小说语言,对文本内容与形式进行解读与分析,揭示出作品主人公具有强烈的主体性和不确定性;小说的结构形成了"大型对话";作品的语言明显具有"双声性"特点,这些方面构成了整部作品的复调特征,"复调性"给作品带来了深刻意义和深远影响。

Light in August is one of the masterpieces of the world-famous American modernist novelists William Faulkner. The present paper applies the polyphonic theory of Mikhail Bakhtin to read and analyze the content and the structure of the novel, revealing the polyphonic features of the novel through three aspects, including the heroes, the structure and the language of the novel. The heroes in the novel have intense subjectivity and uncertainty; the structure of the novel forms ＂ great dialogue＂, and the words in the novel are ＂double-voiced＂. The polyphonic features endow Light in A ugust profound artistic value and great influence.
