Celebrations,Memories and Republic:on the Centenary of French Revolution and its Historical Effects

1889年适值法国大革命爆发一百周年,第三共和国政府精心组织了一系列庆典活动,并建造了埃菲尔铁塔、举办了巴黎世界博览会。在这些活动中,共和政府有意识地挖掘和强调与共和起源相连的革命历史记忆,以此来实现广泛传播共和意识形态、巩固共和制度的目的。本文尝试对1889年法国大革命一百周年纪念活动的概况作一勾勒,并进而探究其历史作用。

In order to celebrate the centenary of the French Revolution, the Third Republic government organized a series of celebrations in 1889. Except for the celebrations, the Eiffel Tower and the Exposition Universelle were also important parts of the centenary. In these activities, the republic government consciously construtted the memories of great events in the French Revolution, and diffused the republican ideology. By doing so, the republican system was strengthened. This paper aims at describing the centenary of the French Revolution and analyzing its historical effects.
