“知中国,服务中国”:张伯苓的南开大学办学之路

"Knowing China and Serving China":Zhang Boling and the Unique Characteristic of Nankai University

张伯苓是我国著名的教育家和大学校长,从事教育事业长达50年之久。他在建立中学的基础上,创立了南开大学和小学,构成了完整的教育体系。他推陈出新,锐意改革,在创办南开大学的过程中,经过缜密的思考、艰苦的探索,把南开大学发展基石牢固地建立在中国社会深厚的土壤中,"知中国,服务中国"成为南开大学鲜明的办学特色。本文探讨了这一办学特色的形成、内涵及其现实意义,对当下我国建设高等教育强国具有非常重要的意义。

Zhang Boling was a famous educator and university president of China, devoting himself to education for about fifty years. He founded a middle school first, and then established Nankai University and a primary school, constituting an integral education system. While weeding through the old and bringing forth the new, he was determined to make reforms. And in the course of founding Nankai University, he deliberated meticulously and explored arduously, making the foundation of Nankai University rooted in China＇ s society so deeply that ＂knowing China and serving China＂ became a quite unique characteristic of the school. In this paper, we have a discussion of the forming, connotation and significance of the unique characteristic, and we hope that our study will be of significance in the process of building a powerful China by developing its higher education.
