Alfred N. Whitehead, a distinguished mathematician and philosopher, had his unique thoughts on education, which were fully expressed in his educational masterpiece The Aims of Education. The book with six essays and two appendices elaborates on the rhythm of the educational process, the relationship between freedom and discipline, the coordination between classical and modem courses, and the management of a university from the purpose of education. Those ideas, or rather profound insights derived from many years of education practice, have not only become the precursor of ＂process education＂, but also served as a good review and criticism of the British education at that time.
