现代大学在由社会的边缘走向社会的中心,由精英走向大众化的过程中,如何在这急剧变化的洪流中自我生存,自我实现,就是要去重新认识大学教育的双重特征—"象牙塔"精神与"经世致用",如何做到使其"边缘"不断拓展,"核心"不断巩固,其内部主题就是研究两者在现代大学中的地位与影响,这对矛盾的解决将有利于大学做出明智的选择。

The role of modern university is from the brink to the center of the society,at the same time the stage of it deveolps from the elite to the mass.The way to keep self-realization and self-survival in this rapidly changing torrent is to aware the dual characteristics-the ＂ivory tower＂ spirit and ＂the Practical＂.The way to expand the marginal status and enhance the kernel status is to learn the role and the influence of the two characteristics on modern university.It will be a wise choice to the university if this contradiction between the two were resolved.
