外科感染疾病并不少见。多数患者的处理并不难，通常可经过针对性外科手段，辅以抗生素治疗，都能取得较好效果。但如果外科感染发展成为全身性严重感染，即脓毒症（sepsis）时，其处理就相当困难。此时病情复杂而多变，可能出现内环境紊乱、
