外来语言符号的意义本土化——对“科学”的语料库个案研究

摘要 研究外来语言符号意义的本土化不仅能揭示符号意义变化的规律,还有助于发现语言与社会及文化语境之间的关系。本研究对汉语的中的外来语言符号"科学"一词的意义本土化现象进行了基于语料库的探讨。通过对CCL语料库的研究我们发现,"科学"在做名词修饰语时有两个主要意义,其中一个意义是在中文语境下产生的本土化意义。之后,我们讨论了"科学"本土化意义产生的认知过程及其认知属性和文化动因:"科学"在中国文化中产生的新意义是通过转喻的认知过程产生的;这一过程的产生是由"科学"这个范畴的认知属性和科学在中国文化语境中的特殊涵义决定的。 The study of semantic localization of borrowed linguistic signs can reveal the changing pattern of meaning as well as the relation between language and cultural context. This study aims to reveal how the meaning of the English word "science", which is translated as "ke-xue" in Chinese, is localized in Chinese. Based on the CCL corpus, we find that besides its function as a noun, "ke-xue" is often used as the modifier of a nominal group. In this case, it has two basic meanings, one of which is a meaning that is newly created in Chinese context. The new localized meaning is created by the cognitive process of metonymy, and this process is facilitated by the cognitive property of the category "science" and the special cultural and social connotation of science in the Chinese context.
