On the true meaning of pun translation

翻译之难莫过于双关,原因就在于找到完全对等的双关几乎不可能。通过大量英语双关语汉译实例证明,幽默双关语的替换译法是一个有效途径。在双关语翻译中,译者应当尽量保持原文审美信息,再现原文修辞效果,这才是翻译双关修辞的真谛所在。

The pun is considered most challenging in the field of translation,because it is almost impossible to find an exact pun equivalent in the target language.Based on abundant E-C translation cases,this paper attempts to argue that the replacement translation of humorous English puns is an effective solution.It is pointed out that aesthetic messages of the source text should be especially retained and the rhetoric effects reproduced in the translation of pun.
