Objective: To observe the monoamine changes in the brain of patients with Parkinson's disease before and after stereotactic neurosurgery Methods: The levels of monoamines in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of 15 patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) before and one week after stereotactic destruction of thalamoventrolateral nucleus were determined and the operation effect were observed Results: The CSF 5 hydroxytryptamine, 5 hydroxyindoleacetic acid and noradrenaline after operation were significantly lower than those before There was no significant changes when referring to dopamine Tremor, rigidity of the contralateral upper and lower limbs disappeared after the destruction of thalamoventrolateral nucleus, but the akinedia was not improved Conclusions: Several neurotransmitters in the brain of the patients after operations were altered and reached to a new balance on a lower level Therefore, stereotactic operation was not a complete relief for PD patients
