This paper makes a diachronic study of the evolution of the English phonetic system,the development and changes of the standard pronunciation of English.It discusses the Gimson s system,the English notation system and the phonetic system in the teaching of English in our country.It also points out the aspects that should be further improved and standardized in the English phonetic system and stresses some problems that we should pay attention to in teaching English phonetics in our country.
