Mathematic word-problem solving is a hot topic in the study of problem solving. Problem representation serves as the core in the initial phase of word-problem solving. Starting from the three fundamental research elements of the experimental psychology, this article illustrates and discusses the characteristics, defects and trends of the variable selection in the mathematic word-problem solving representation.
